I’m Delilah Ramos, the face of Cookin’ and Shakin’. I fell in love with FOOD and TRAVELING when I was barely in elementary school, specifically when my sister and I flew from New York to Puerto Rico, unsupervised. It was enchanting, mind-blowing and eternally liberating. I remember the stewardess served us a gigantic breakfast on white porcelain plates, silverware and linen.
The meal was larger than any I had ever had at one sitting; buttermilk biscuits, sausages, eggs, fruit, cereal, juice and condiments. It was too much! I considered taking the leftovers in the little white barf bag, but I didn’t have the nerve. So, I did my best at eating as much as I could.
Today, I travel every chance I can get in order to experience new foods and cultures. Whenever I try dishes from around the world, I almost feel the same joy as when I was that little girl. It’s a blessing to be able to have the flexibility to be spontaneous because there was a time when I couldn’t be so free.
For over 10 years, I co-owned and managed a comedy club on the Lower East Side of Manhattan called the Laugh Lounge. On any given night, I’d host 4 to 8 comedians and 25-150 guests. I even jumped behind the bar and served drinks when the place got slammed with business. During that time, I began experimenting and creating new drink recipes for our menu. On special nights, I catered for the club which forced me to come up with creative ways to feed many mouths within a reasonable budget.
Fast forward a few years later and I have combined my skills, talents and passions into one big pot. (No pun)
